How to protect lips while tanning?

I just got a tanning bed membership, and I found that the beds somewhat burn my lips. They're not exactly chapped, they just feel less soft, and there's this redness around them (kinda like a Kool-Aid mustache). The rest of my body is fine, no strange reactions, but not the lips.

I put on some lip balm before I go in the bed, but it doesn't appear to be working. Do any of you have any tips on protecting your lips while in the tanning bed? If not, do you recommend any products for moisturizing them REALLY well? Thanks!

You said that you used lip balm before the tanning session, but did it have SPF in it? Chapstick makes a great lip balm with SPF. I believe it is the one in the blue tube.

If not, the extra moisture from the lip balm was probably attracting more UV light, the same way an indoor tanning lotion encourages the attraction of UV light on other parts of your body. Moisturized skin tans better.

Try Chapstick with SPF. If you are already using a lip balm with SPF, try a higher level of SPF or dab a bit of sun screen on there before you tan.

you really should cover your whole face, to prevent wrinkles because tanning beds speed up the againg process and just wear a darker foundation.

or just get a high spf lip balm my tanning place sells lip balm to protect your lips
Reply:i tan all the time bc i live in new york. before i get in the bed, after applying my tannin lotion, i put chapstick on. i just use the regular kind, and i then apply it after i get out and before i go to bed. (being in a cold area, i actually use it all the time!) but i always always put it on before i start my actual tannin sessions...!!! merry christmass xoxo.%26lt;3

Reply:I have found the best and most reasonable product is sold by E.L.F. my favorite is the blackberry creme. You should really check it out: http://www.eyeslipsface.com/products.asp... it is so cheap and wonderful for your lips. I have used so many other products, including extremely expensive stuff and this is the BEST! Plus, it tastes good, smells amazing (people notice!) and it makes my lips the softest ever...and I live in PA where it is freezing and drying right now and I have to tan or I blend into the snow!!!
Reply:Use one with zinc oxide, as this helps aid in healing if you get sunburned. If you can't find a balm with it in it, just use the stuff from the tube found in the first aid section of most stores. The main ingredient in most lip balms is petrolatum, or petroleum jelly, which moisturizes, but does not aid in healing.
