Does it matter if you use lotion when you go tanning?

Every time I go to the tanning salon they try and sell me this expensive lotion made for indoor tanning. I have this stuff I bought for 5 dollars at Wal-Mart that I use when I get out of the tanning bed because I don't want my skin to get dry. I still get tan even though I don't wear lotion in the bed, and my skin is soft because I use lotion when I get out. If anyone can tell me anything about expensive tanning lotion, (like what is so special about it), I would really like to know! Thanks!

Tanning salons are limited in the ways they can make a buck. The cost of tanning is so low that they need to sell you stuff to make any kind of profit. You don't need the add-ons, so don't buy it unless you've got lots of money or the owner is a friend and you don't want to see them go out of business.

Love that tan!

Use Baby Wipes prior to tanning...you will be amazed at the results! Report It

Reply:you get a better than if you use an indoor sun tanning lotion. it will stop you from turning orange.
Reply:A lot of people need it or they don't tan, myself, I'm like you. I don't buy $60 worth of lotions for tanning beds and I tan just fine.
Reply:it doesn't make a single difference, they just want to get money off you.
Reply:do what u want don't listen to the liars
Reply:It makes you go past the brownest that you can get, (the expensive ones do work) everyone has a natural plateau that once they reach they cant go any browner and the creams let you go darker than that.
Reply:It's all just a marketing scam. If you want to use lotion, use your cheap stuff, 9 out of 10 times the cheap stuff is even better than the ridiculously priced lotion!
Reply:i used California Tan. it came w/a kit (it was a gift)

i like it. it has hemp in it but i'm not sure how it works

i put that on then apply sunblock over it

gets me pretty tan - faster than if i don't use it
Reply:It depends on how you tan. I'm Italian so I never have to use tan enhancers BUT my friend has VERY pale skin and she doesn't tan as well as me unless she uses them. AVON has a new cream out in the MARK catalog that helps you keep your tan so it doesn't fade as fast...THAT works because I use it.
Reply:Basically all that expensive lotion does is make your skin somewhat reflective so that you tan better. Dry skin will keep you from tanning well, so it's better to apply it before, not after, you get in the bed or booth. Also, the lotions that they sell you that are specifically for beds or booths are non-greasy dry lotions that won't gunk up the bed. Sometimes they contain self-tanning products as well. You can indeed buy products at walmart that do just the same thing. I'd say that if what you're currently using works fine, stay with that...just remember to look behind you and clean off any surface you might leave greasy.
Reply:well it depends what lotion ur using if u r using a moisturiser 2 keep ur skin moist then it is one of the main causes of tanning. well to prevent tanning and to keep ur skin smooth go to the mall and search for a sun screen lotion which shall keep ur smooth and shall also potect u from the sun such as lakme.
