Need Help WIth My First Time Going to a Tanning Salon....?

Hello, I am a 17 year old male and I am a senior in high school. I recently took a trip out of the country and got a nice tan (besides the severe burn and sun poisoning I also received). I am healing now and my skin is almost done peeling and everything, however I now want to go tanning to even out my color and get a little darker. I feel akward going to a tanning place, especially as a male, but also beacuse it is my first time and I have absolutely not clue what to do or bring. I know they put you in for 8 minutes the first time, but do I go in naked? How do I decided between stand up or lay down beds? -Which one is better? Should I apply sun tan lotion there? Are the tanning beds in private rooms? Will the googles cause lines? -- How much do they cost?

I'm sorry for all the questions, but I need some help so that I don't look like an idiot going into the place, especially when it feels weird going tanning as a man already. Please help me out....

Thank you...

believe it or not a lot of men go to tanning salons

for a forwarning it is VERY VERY drying to your skin and wait for your skin to heal all the way before you go

i got naked but every other time i cover my face with a towel so it doesnt get horribly dry

8 minutes for the first time..is way to long..i recommend going 2-5 minutes depending on the bed that you are using (high pressure low pressure) they will inform you when you go..

you should get but dont need..a sunbed tanning lotion..they sell them at the salons and will direct you towards which one you should use..but they are pricey there..around 25..mine came from walmart and works just fine

you are in a private room when you go..and generally there is just a fan in there with ya..so you dont get too hot

after you tan you spray the bed with a sanitizer they have and wipe it down with some paper towels

i lay down..rather then standing..just because i dont care for the stand up beds..its more of a preference then anything as for down there i think i would cover it with a towel because..well..it could cause lines and uneven tanning unless you do it erect

dont shower for like 2 hours after tanning because you actually still tan after you session..and apply lots and lots and lots of lotion afterwards

You can to to your local salon and they can answer most of those questions for you. There are plenty of men who go, so there is nothing to be ashamed of.

Some people choose to go in with their birthday suit and others feel more comfortable with something on.
Reply:First, don't be scared to go at all!! Tons of guys go tanning, and the salon I go to is actually run by men! Second, once you get there, the staff can walk you through the entire process, and answer all of your questions. You are right about only going a few minutes, then slowly increasing your time. Also, as far as wearing clothing or not, it is your choice. But I say go nude, that's what you are there for, right?! The rooms are completely private. Choosing a bed is up to you too. I personally enjoy laying down, sometimes I can even fall asleep! Hope this helps!

PS. Lotion is always a debate. I choose to wear regualr moisturizer, but some people say tanning lotions are better.

PPS...dont shower for a few hours after your tan. Let it set in and it will last longer!
Reply:no worries about being a guy and going tanning. Get some good lotion, I use Australian Gold. I would recommend NO TINGLE for you. I tan in the raw but put on a sticker tattoo to monitor how dark I'm getting. Get a string bikini just for the heck of it, that would be funny. I prefer to lay down but make sure you place your arms up over your head for like half the time(you think "farmer's tan is bad) and look up so your neck gets hit evenly.Goggles are cheap but essential.
Reply:First off, you should not feel weird at all. I see plenty of men go in and out of my tanning salon.

Anyway, you do not have to bring anything. Just yourself.. and some money.

My tips for you include

* Buy tanning lotion. Let the person who greets you in know that it is your first time there. They will be more than happy to teach you the in's and out's of tanning at their salon.

*I would go with a bronzer*

* Stand up beds give you a better overall tan. BUT what I recommend is rotating days. For example: Monday you can do the stand up and Tuesday the lay down. You see what I am saying?

* Now whether you want tan lines is all up to you. I would say you should go naked because you are a guy.

* You should apply sun tan lotion there. And yes the beds are in a private room. You should undress yourself and then put the lotion on all over your body.

*Sometimes the goggles will cause lines. What I do is this though. I grab 2 towels that they provide for you and put them over my face. Why? Well because I do not know if you are aware but tanning does cause wrinkles. I'd rather protect my face. LOL.

* The goggles run I believe no more than $3.

It is not a scary or ackward thing. Enjoy it! Feel free to ask any more questions.
Reply:Plenty of males go to the sunbeds! No worries. Costs depend on where you are and which company you choose. Yes, the beds are always in private rooms. And whether you go in naked or not depends on you. Just know you'll have tanlines if you don't! They clean the beds very well though, so there's generally no reason to wear clothing. Alternating between stand up and lay down beds is a good idea to get the best tan.
Reply:I worked at a tanning salon for about 2 years. My boyfriend also goes tanning with me. While I was working at the tanning salon, it's unbelieveable how many men come in. I would say that alot of high school/ college students come in but there are more older men who come in. It is actually good for you because it toughens your skin to make it stronger to prevent you from any sunburns and it also provides vitamins for your skin. (or at least the sun does) All you is walk in and fill out a form and your ready to go. You can go naked or wrap a towel around your tush or wherever you don't want tan. Whatever makes you comfortable. I go naked. You can bring lotion but most suntan salons don't want any tanning oils. No the goggles will not cause lines. I recomment going 8-10 minutes the first time to get a base tan. Trust me, there are probably 40% male and 60% females. I like the lay down beds becuase I feel like i'm doing some bondage crap in the stand up beds.
Reply:I think the stand up booths are better but both work. You can go naked if you don't want tan lines but I know my boyfriend wears his boxers, if you don't want the goggles to make lines you could use a facial moisturizer with like SPF 10 or 15 so that your face won't get burned, Yes the tanning booths and beds should be in private rooms, start off with like 8 minutes and then work your way up, the goggles only cost 5-10 bucks and are worth it so then you don't have to worry about other peoples eye gunk won't be on there. Good luck!
Reply:i don't think there is anything wrong with a male going on a sunbed i just thing sunbeds are wrong full stop, why bother risking skin cancer to come out looking like you've been tangoed iv not seen one nice tan on anybody who uses a sunbed an that's generally everybody these days,i personally prefer the pale look myself lol.why dont you just start sunbathing instead as the we have the weather for it now an at least you wont look orange with a real tan.
