Never been to a tanning bed, what do I need to know?

I'm a guy and I was going to go to Florida, but my plans have changed, but I want a good tan for the summer. I want to go to a tanning bed and have never been fake baking. I have many questions like what's the average cost for a monthly membership? Do I use suntan lotion, like when I'm out in the sun? Do I need to buy anything before I go? Do I need anything to protect my eyes? What do you wear in those things? Do people actually go in those things naked? I know a lot of these questions sound stupid, but I have no idea about it and want to go to the tanning salon prepared.

Cost definitely depends on the place, package that you go with and the styles of beds offered (it is worth it to pay a few bucks extra to upgrade to the nicer beds). Look for the nicest, cleanest place in your area (you'll be able to tell). For the lotion, a lot of places won't let you use generic or outside brands (they say it may damage the beds) so it will be best to purchase the lotion from the place you end up going to - and even though it can be pricey it is worth it to have the good stuff. The only thing that I would suggest you do before going is make sure you don't have dry skin. Dry skin will reflect the light, not absorb it so you won't tan well. Oh, and use lip stuff with sunblock. You MUST use the eye covers (the salon will have them) - your eyes will burn otherwise, and that is very bad not to mention it hurts. I tan in the buff - no lines that way, but you should start out by covering your face for half of the time that you lay (or cover it when it starts to feel hot/burning) because your face tans differently than the rest of you. Start out with little time (the salon will be able to help you there) %26amp; don't forget to mosturize everyday (after showering. By the way, tanning is relaxing - and it helps with the winter blues too.

I freaked out before I went the first time as well. The people at the tanning salons are usually very helpful so do not be afraid to ask them! As far as memberships go it really depends on where you are and you usually have the option of monthly unlimited or per visit. Call at least 2 places to compare prices. I buy my tanning lotion (different from sunscreen, it promotes it doesn't block) at the salon. It is fairly expensive but I wouldn't tan without it, it really makes all the difference. Personally I do not wear anything when I tan because I don't like lines, but many people like to keep their underoos on. It's totally personal preference. And most salons provide eye protection, wear it! I also recommend keeping a towel over your face since it will burn easy!
Reply:heheheh yeap... i was freaking out too the first time i went.... because i had no clue what to do.... or what i need... but the people there are very helpful (especially if your new) ... they sell lotion there.... so you can buy it there.... where i go they provide eye protection things... but you should really get somr if they dont.... because its really REALLY harmful to the eyes.... make sure you cover your face with a towel because it burns fast for a while.... then open it... dont forget to lie on your stomach too... and tan your underarmpits..... and yeah ususally pll. dont wear anything not to get the lines.... any other wuestions you should really ask the people there... they know best :D
