Should I wear suncreen in a tanning bed?

I want to get tan for my wedding in about 2 and half months so I have been going to the tanning beds, and have got a little bit of color so far. I am naturally pale with freckles and dark brown hair. But I do not want to get skin cancer later on in life, so should I wear suncreen? Can I still get a tan with suncreen on in a tanning bed?

My step-mom is a doctor and she said that even sunscreen will not prevent you from getting a tan, even SPF 30! It just prevents the harmful rays from penetrating the deeper areas underneath the skin which can cause wrinkles and sagging later on. Sunscreen also prevents and highly reduces your chances of forming cancer as it reflects the more damaging rays. All sunlight is damaging, artificial or not, so it's just as likely we will get cancer form walking outside as we are in a tanning bed. So even during the day you should be wearing a facial sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher to prevent premature aging, and and SPF 30 on all parts of your body that are not clothed or are exposed to the sun. So no, sunscreen will not stop the tanning process, and I should know, I wore SUNBLOCK SPF 45 and reapplied it every hour, and I still got a MAJOR tan just from being outside in the summer!! And although tanning beds may increase the chances of getting skin cancer, most tanning beds nowadays have removed most or all of the more damaging.cancer causing UV rays and have filters in the beds to prevent if even more!! Hope this helps!!

Reply:If you want to avoid skin cancer...don't go into another tanning bed as long as you live! I used to tan all the time until I found out that each session increases your risk of cancer by something like 80 percent. Instead, find a salon that specializes in applying faux tans. You can go for a few sessions in the upcoming weeks to decide how dark you want to go for your wedding, and then have it done 2 days before the big day! It will end up being less expensive in the long run, and saves your skin.
Reply:I know this isn't the answer you're looking for - but don't use tanning beds - sunscreen or not. Sunscreen will keep you from getting a tan - so what's the point? But if you're staying in too long - the sunscreen stops working, and you're getting a tan anyway.

Tans are not healthy - the do damage - wrinkles, discoloration, and of course skin cancer. You might look good on your wedding day, but you're going to look bad 10 years from now.
Reply:If you are the least bit worried about getting skin cancer than you should definitely not go tanning. It exponentially increases your chances of cancer. You can always go with a spray on tan, if done correctly you can't even tell it is spray on.
Reply:I THINK YOU SHOULD CUZ YOU MIGHT GET DARKER THAN WHAT YOU WANT
Reply:Yeap
Reply:If you are worried about cancer then you should NEVER use a tanning bed. It's a false statement to say they are safe and have removed harmful rays. You should try some self tanners and even the salon type spray on tan for a natural glow but not a deep tan. My sister in law would not listen and went to tanning beds. She ended up with skin cancer on her back after only one summer of tanning. It's not worth it so I suggest using the shimmer lotions and bronzing face powder. You get a beautiful summer glow, no wrinkles and best of all no cancer. Congrats on your wedding. :)
