aside from the fact that you can get skin cancer from the sun or tanning bed. i don't get why being all brown, orange is a good, "healthy" look when you're supposed to be white or whatever color you were. i have seen all the times that girls used to look the best with white face and sunglasses and now they all look tanned and with the sunglasses they just look weird. plus with the most influential celebrities these days, not many of them get tanning. Think Avril Lavigne, Brittany Murphy, Nicole Kidman, Ellen Degeneres and more, and they look the best all the time just being themselves in their own white skin. Only fake girls in those LB or the Hills eps get all tanned up for no reason. Do you agree? What's your take on it?
Why do girls/women these day love tanning so much?
I like tanning
Why do girls/women these day love tanning so much?
Some women do.
And I think its nastey too. And I'm plae as a ghost! :)
And a 14 or 15 year old isn't really considered a girl. Just so you know.
Reply:really there aren't many girls i no that tan, i think it is just asking for a earlier death
Reply:oh firgure it out....I'm from cally so i'm naturally tan.
Reply:i really love being tan in the months where it actually looks normal...like summer. but like now i just go with my normal skin color. its really weird and unnatural seeing orange girls in december/january.
Reply:NOT EVERY GIRL LIKE TO TAN OKAY
{I DONT}
Reply:If girls have green or blue eyes, a tan would really make them stand out and pop. I have natural olive tan skin so I'm not an expert on this...
Reply:I think that girls do it sometimes cause they feel really insecure about themselves. Kind of like sheep...some girls don't want to stand out from everyone else. So they remake themselves to look like what they think everyone else looks like.
Reply:if you look at the people that are considered the american idealist version of beauty, they are tan, with blonde hair and blue eyes (at least where i live, california.) that is what is force fed to women in modeling ads and the fashion industry. its like being skinny.
being tan is also considered good now because it means you are wealthy, having time to lounge around in the sun.
in the 1500s it was unstylish because it meant you worked in the fields, but became popular later on.
Reply:I agree with you. It looks very unnatural, especially in places where its below freezing outside. Girls walk around looking like they just got back from the beach or something... but I can't even say that because it doesn't even resemble a natural tan. They look like oompa loompas.
Reply:I love seeing questions/comments like this... I live in southern California, where everyone is tan, except me!
I use to feel so insecure about myself, I would buy the fake tanners, etc. Then I realized, that my skin is beautiful and apparently, unique.
I've learned to love my skin, and I giggle at those who think that looking "hot" and "sexy" now is worth getting cancer and having skin like leather, when they're older.
I now know that I will age gracefully with my fair skin and I'm happy with it!
Reply:People do it because it's popular and they want to conform to what is considered normal. There was a time when being pale was considered beautiful and royalty would powder their faces to look as white as possible- then suddenly it changed. Factory jobs were the original cause (more people were working indoors and were staying pale, so being able to tan meant you had leisure time) and then a designer (Coco Chanel) started a fad to be tan after accidently aquiring one. Ever since then tans have been looked at as something trendy.
Now, not all people are like that- I actually tan easily, but since I love light skin I do everything from using sunscreen to wearing long sleeves when I'm in the sun to stay pale- and there are still some countries where being pale is considered being upper class (it means you work indoors and don't have to work in fields and/or can afford bleaching creams), but unless it suddenly becomes trendy to be pale, nothing will change. Enjoy being comfortable in your own skin color, enjoy being a little different, and don't shed a tear when the people that spend hours baking in the sun develop skin cancer. ;-D
Reply:blame coco chanel
also, what do you care if people prefer to look tan. i can care less if you prefer to look pale
