Which is better/safer: tanning bed or sun?

I don't *want* a tan, I *NEED* one! I'm sick of having this pasty pale complexion! Should I lay out in the sun by the pool, or should I go to a tanning salon?

I know both can be dangerous to your health, but I also don't want a sticky orange fake tan.

Your thoughts/suggestions?
Which is better/safer: tanning bed or sun?
if your by the pool it works better cause ur n and out of the water so u don't get burned and it don't cost as much if you sit out just be careful and put on sun tan but make sure ur skin can take it or u don't get sick from the sun some cant take the sun for more than 30 minutes be careful of that and good luck

the sun
Reply:sun...

apply a regular lotion

then put a self tanner on evenly

sit out in sun hour a day afterwords rinse off.

"viola" tan!
Reply:Sun is healthier and I love Ban de Soleil - theres a type of their lotion called orange gellee or something like that. Gets you really dark, not orange, and smells great. Have fun!
Reply:the sun is safer...
Reply:neither use dove tanning cream it safe for ur skin and it leaves ur skin bronzed and even!! hope this helps!

Reply:go for the sun on a hot day but be in the pool. i was in the pool for 7 hours and i got the best tan. and my friend was with me and she is SO pale and now she is tan.
Reply:Well, both are actually quite dangerous. As hard as it is to believe, tanning beds have the same skin cancer rate as the sun! Something spray on would be better, or new natural lotions buy olay that give your skin a healtyh sunkissed glow after a number of weeks.

You could go sit out by the pool, but get extremely high sunscreen that blocks bothe UVA and UVB rays.
Reply:I would say neither.

They both are very harmful to us.

Sorry, I don't know the exact brand, but try going to a drug store or Wal*Mart for a self tanner.
Reply:the sun gives you a more natural tan, but the tanning beds are pretty close. make sure you use the bronzing type beds. and hate to say it but you gotta pay for what you want. cheap beds = cheap tans. i also highly recommend Hempz Black Label tanning lotion. It's the best. your tan doesn't wash off when you shower.
Reply:the sun. and it's cheaper.
Reply:Just go out in the sun and wear sunblock. Tanning buds release radiation rays that WILL cause cancer with prolonged looks.
Reply:I would do niether but, I always go out in the Sun.

There are some spray tans that don't make you look all orange/I watch Sunset Tan lol.

Jergans is a good tanner. But, MAKE SURE TO WASH YOUR HANDS AFTERWARD! Because, I never did and I had orange hands and fingernails for 2 weeks! =脼
Reply:While the sun is the natural way to go, tanning beds - used properly - are safer.

With tanning beds, you can control the amount of exposure much more precisely that the sun.
Reply:You should definately tan in the sun. I have this great tanning oil from Banana Boat. It's protective tanning oil with SPF 15 so it keeps you safe but still lets you get a great tan. If you want to try some I just picked up a bottle at Wal-Mart for like 7 dollars.
Reply:The sun. Plus you get a good dose of vitamin D.
Reply:Every year, well over 1 million people are diagnosed with skin cancer, one of the most preventable types of cancer. Skin cancer is deadly, but people just can鈥檛 get used to either being pale, or using fake tanners!

Being pale used to be a sign of nobility! It was highly sought after. And have you ever heard of ancient people dying of skin cancer? I THINK NOT!

I know you think you need a tan, but maybe you should think ahead 20 years from now. Having smooth, beautiful skin will be a lot better than having wrinkled, leathery and spotted skin.

Sun can cause pre-cancerous growths, which are ugly, gross and dangerous. It also causes ugly age spots (also known by the gross term of liver spots).

It makes skin lose its elasticity, therefore causing it to sag and get wrinkled and ugly. Goodbye beauty, goodbye youthful appearance!

It also causes many fine lines, and causes hands to lose its suppleness.

Stay out of the sun during its peak hours, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., unless you have sunscreen on. Cover up when you go out! Use hats, sunglasses, chapstick鈥檚 with sunscreen, etc.

There are so many fake tans you can get now days that aren鈥檛 sticky or orange! There should be no excuse for tanning. Try Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer or some other self-tanner. The product changes your skin over time, so it doesn鈥檛 look fake at all! They even have a product for your face!

But if you must tan you must so here is the info I can give you.

There is one main difference between tanning beds and the sun: the UVA and UVB rays.

The sun emits both types of rays. The newest tanning beds emit far fewer UVB rays than the sun does (proportionally). UVB rays are the more harmful of the two types of radiation. Their wavelengths are short, and they therefore affect the outermost layers of a person鈥檚 skin. Burning is most often caused by UVB rays. UVA rays are longer and penetrate deeper into the dermal layer of the skin, causing a tan. BUT BOTH ARE DANGEROUS!

Tanning beds expose tanners to far fewer UVB rays than the sun. But a person can still be overexposed to UVA rays, which can lead to long-term skin damage. If you must, please use a tanning bed in moderation!

And much of the tanning bed industry will tell you that is not safe to not tan! By this, they mean that if you are rarely exposed to the sun, you have a greater chance of acquiring some forms of cancer. Some have even found that people who tan, who have not received regular sun exposure in the past are more likely than others to develop malignant melanoma (the deadliest form of skin cancer). So be extra careful if you have pale skin!

If you want to be fully safe, the best idea is to avoid tanning beds and to wear sunblock when you are out in the sun.

Good luck!
